Does Greenbull vs Shanks put a nail in the coffin in regards to this debate? Everyone cites Whitebeard vs the Admirals as evidence for the Admirals being ~= to the Yonko, but Whitebeard was so ill that he couldn't use Haoshoku Haki despite being called "the world's strongest man". Now that we've seen that one burst of Haoshoku from Shanks was enough to fully paralyze Greenbull, is it further evidence that the Admirals aren't close to peak Yonko level? Was Whitebeard that weak despite all of the hype he was given?

The man was on life support before the war, suffered a heart attack during the fight, lost half his head and was still rampaging. He wasn’t nothing close to his prime but he wasn’t weak.

I never considered the admirals to be on par with the Yonko themselves since they needed the Warlords to help them balance the power.

Whitebeard was plenty strong at Marineford compared to the admirals even with all the damage he took.

Given what we've learned about supreme king haki augmenting combat in the Kaido fight, there's no way the Admirals are on the level of anyone that can use it like that. Shanks seems like he's probably the strongest Haki user alive on top of all that.

I agree with both of you. It's maybe not a common opinion here but I see it time and again online. I've seen people take Oda's statement on Akainu claiming the One Piece within a year to mean that he is above the Yonko. Pretty laughable given his performance against a half dead Whitebeard.

What was the statement about Akainu?

I don't doubt a marine admiral could claim the one piece easily. The marines have all sorts of advantages that the pirates don't when it comes to travel and knowledge.

The fact that they don’t have any road polygraphs that the Yonkos had proved they ain’t shit to ayonko. You would think they would go after them to get the One Piece and end the whole pirate age.

I get the feeling that the one piece isn't something you can just carry away.

Ok, that's completely taken out of context. More referring to the idea that he had to keep luffy away from the main villains early on because of how strong he was.

This is a complicated question to answer, because I think there's more balance in power between the Admirals than there are between the Yonko. Whitebeard would kill Akainu of all people if given the right circumstances, but Big Mom ended up weaker than everyone expected.
