Does base Gotenks after the Rosat really need to be > SSJ3 Goku?

SSJ Gotenks pre was implied by Piccolo to have surpassed SSJ3 Goku. SSJ Gotenks pre was deemed to be useless against Super Boo. The fact that Piccolo thought Base Gotenks post could stand a chance against Super Boo seems to imply that Base Gotenks would win without trouble.

I don't really know what's up with fusion anymore to be honest, that's why I made that other thread asking about how fusion works but that just made me more confused XD

It all depends on how you view Beeruses statement. Stating SSJ3 Goku was the second most fun opponent he had
is an outright statement of Goku's superiority over the younger generation. On the other hand, one argued Beerus
was not focused on Gotenkses and Gohan's chis during that fight, like he'd been focused on Goku's chi.
All in all, what's the out of universe explanation? What did AT have in mind? I get the feeling that, at this point, AT
himself doesn't care who's the strongest, he just wants Goku to be the hero. I don't think he gave that much thought
when putting such statements.
What do you think? I wish Tosh was here too.

Thanks for summoning me, but no Piccolo NEVER makes an implication like that.

In fact, Goku states he told Buu that "someone stronger than myself would fight him" and this is an obvious lie, as when Buu asked if Gotenks would be strong, Goku never said a word and ignored it.

Next, when Buu is on Earth mucking around, Krillin and Piccolo have a conversation about Gotenks

Krillin "But Goku SAID fusion is the strongest"
Piccolo "That would be nice BUT"

First, Krillin is repeating what Goku said, and not providing his own measure of power. Piccolo's answer is one of doubt (much in the same way Goku doubts SSJ Gohan could beat Buu)

Finally, even AFTER ROSAT, Trunks (who doesn't know how strong Buu is) thinks that SSJ3 would be needed to kill him

Except this alternate scenario isn't likely. He doesn't have to focus on Gohan or Gotenks to state they are weaker than Goku.
