This is honestly one of the most if not the absolute most bizarre slights (easily one of the dumbest things I've ever heard from the entire community) the detractors have against Goku x Chi-Chi. Hell, I see this belief shared a lot throughout various forums and discussions on the series but I could never wrap my head around this thing.
Saying Chi-Chi 'tricked/forced/trapped/whatever' implies she either played on the fact Goku thought a bride was something to eat or acted as thought Goku had to uphold the promise which she obviously didn't do. In fact, the only real argument I see for this belief is basically just Goku being Goku. Nothing from Chi-Chi's end. Goku may not have know what the promise was really for but he didn't have to say "yes".
Goku is an uneducated dolt but he's not retarded.
To me, this just seems like an excuse to absolve any blame from Goku and leave it ALL on Chi-Chi just like the equally ridiculous claim how Chi-Chi is somehow trying to mold Goku into something he's not. She let Goku do pretty much whatever he wanted for most of the marriage yet the moment she has him do anything other than train all the time, people act like she's been out to change who he is. Only by Super that she actually has him hold down a job, which he half-asses by becoming a radish farmer instead of applying his talents to his profession like becoming a martial arts instructor or an athlete of sorts, but people were claiming that shit even before Super started.
Even worse is how these people would ship Goku with other women like Bulma just because she would let him go off training on his own ignoring the fact she hated it when Yamcha did the same thing and she still openly expresses dissatisfaction over Vegeta training all the time.
Sorry for creating another Goku x Chi-Chi thread but there's so much ridiculous things I feel needs to be addressed.
