They both displayed auras. Vegeta might have been like 470,000-480,000 but pushed beyond his limits and reached 500,000 for a short burst, and maybe that's why he was out of breath.

Freeza was angered by Vegeta matching him. If he had more in the tank he could've easily revved up and overpowered him.

I think it comes from the reserves he has via transformation/true power. The lower forms are after-all not his true self but artificially created forms.

Frieza was scared out of his mind. I was always under the assumption that he didn't pant because he was still fronting his manners.

Now Veggie was an idiot, as usual, for asking him to transform. He did not have the power to beat 1st form Frizzy in a short fight, but he must've been confident in handling a 600-700k "final form" that he knew about.

For all those who think Vegeta was at 250k and not instantly dying from Frieza are crazier than Vegeta was.

The exchange basically speaks for itself. When you're solidly stronger than someone, they need to push their effort beyond yours to hold their own for a bit. I don't think Frieza's anger matters; there's no need to fight as if your life depends on it when you already have the advantage.

It's like in MMA when an elite grappler goes up against someone predominantly known for their striking. For instance, the striker may be able to defend a takedown attempt and keep the fight standing, but comes out of the exchange breathing heavy while the grappler is still relatively fresh.
