Does this debunk the "Piccolo was too far below the SSJ2s to sense them correctly" argument?

I've seen people saying that Piccolo's "Vegeta's ki is probably even greater than Gohan's when he fought Cell" statement is false, because Piccolo was too far below the SSJ2's to sense them appropriately. I think i've got a quote which counters that:

Chapter: 473 (DBZ 279), P13.4
Context: after Goku becomes a Super Saiyan 2
Trunks: “Th-that old guy…He has about as much power as papa…”

Here Trunks, who was only in his base form, managed to tell Goku's power was as big as Vegeta's. Unless you believe Base Trunks > Piccolo, which seems ridiculous, this means the "Piccolo was too far below" argument is flawed.

The argument in question makes no sense. When freaking Karin of all people is able to tell that Perfect Cell is stronger than Goku, then it seems obvious to me that ki size doesn't determine sensing capabilities.

Kuririn was also able to tell Vegeta SSJG2 was even stronger than Semi Perfect Cell, so the "Piccolo is too far off to understand such power" argument isn't a good one.

Really the only thing I can think of that might support it is Piccolo saying 50% Freeza and Kaioken x10 Goku's powers are beyond his understanding... although immediately afterwards he states that 50% Freeza is stronger than Goku, so even then, not really.

Never heard that argument before, but either way Vegeta is definitely stronger than Gohan.

COH also used it, before he became intelligent.
