I just realize that Toei sucks in general when it comes to writing story arcs.., which is why most of the movies and GT sucked dragonballs from a writing standpoint, but writing character-driven stories actually brings out the best in them. Since Toei only have a general plotline to follow and fill in the blanks for canon episodes they suffer greatly from wacky power scaling, plot-hole galore, tension-destroying (unfunny) comedy skits, and butchered characterization.
But when they do those self-contained episodes... at least the recent ones, my hopes skyrocket up. Sure they're not perfect but I really enjoy them... at least more than the canon stuff. Could it be that Toei works better with character-driven stories than plot-driven ones like Dragon Ball?
What do y'all think?
