Has it been explained what Goku Black is?

What exactly is he? And has it been explained what exactly SSj Rose is?

Sorry if the answer to this question is obvious, but I can't be arsed to actually watch Super to find out (even though I've been hearing that it is picking up now)

Goku Black is Zamasu from an alternate Timeline. Super Saiyan Rose is his version of SSJ according to Vjump or some shit.

I don't see why they couldn't just give him the plain old SSj forms, although I guess that means they wouldn't be able to market him to high heaven.

He's basically the result of the same Zamasu Goku beat in a sparring match in episode 52 or somewhere around there, using the Super Dragon Balls to switch bodies with him, after which Zamasu (now Black) killed Goku and his family, then used the Potara and Time Ring he stole from Gowasu to travel to a timeline without a God of Destruction. Turned out to be Future Trunks' timeline, so the same event was eventually averted when Beerus kept a close eye on him and erase him from existence with his power, but due to already possessing a time ring his Goku-Black self survived.

Super Saiyan Rose seems to just be his imitation of Super Saiyan, resulting from further mastering Goku's body.

Which timeline is Black from? I thought I read he was from the present last episode.. but wtf? How can that make sense.

Basically the present timeline, except Beerus never went to kill him.

Didn't Beerus predict that since he erased Black as Zamasu the other one in the future should be gone too, and then Black just replied back that the Time Ring kept him safe? Pretty much confirms they're the same entity. Think of it like what Whis did when FnF Faggot Freeza blew up the Earth, and Whis just erased that event frome existence.

Could Goku potentially get SSj Rose himself? I don't see how it could make sense for only Goku Black to be able to get it if he has the same as Goku physically.

It seems to be Goku Black exclusive so far. Black is physically Goku, but his ki is that of his original self.

What if Zamasu is actually Captain Ginyu, who stole a Time Ring to prevent his death when he got obliterated by Vegeta, then swapped bodies with Zamasu? Maybe it'd explain why Zamasu is so much weaker in the present than in the future, because Ginyu was still getting used to Zamasu's body.

Not possible, since both Zamasu's perceive each other as the same person, and this being Super and all people can train for 3 days and get 100 times stronger if the plot demands it. (Actually did happen with SSJ2 Trunks.)

But yeah, the current arc is actually better than a good chunk of Dragonball arcs aside from a shitty power chain and inconsistent animation, so to form a proper opinion I'd recommend just catching up to it. Most boring episodes only last one before moving to a more plot-relevant segment.

BTW Papasmurf I still go by the God tube theory cause if you think about it Black had to have started somewhere right? Goku had to have met Zamasu even without Trunks's interference.

Yah some believe Goku-Black is the result of a time loop because of Black appearing briefly in the past and his ki being felt similar to Zamasu, while others go by that GodTube theory. I lean toward the latter myself, since the manga skipped that fight between pre-fapping Black and SSJ2 Goku.

@ryan1227 I don't think any arcs in DB or Z are RRA tier except Boo saga, lol. I don't know if I should say the current arc is on par with the Freeza arc just yet, but it's at least better than Cell or the Majunior arc imo.

They made this shit kinda convoluted. Not hard to remember, but still crazy, especially for DB.

They hinted and implied Black may be Zamasu a couple times, but then also countered those hints too, trying to throw us off because of stuff like "They don't have the same ki, but similar ki" What the fuck does that mean now? Did Zamasu's ki slightly change when he took over Goku's body or what?

Zamasu is probably gonna be the favorite villain from Super. I think he's pretty awesome. We'll see what the next arc(s) brings.
