Looking over the chapters again, I think Gohan would be stupid to attempt fighting the androids if he was weaker than Freeza, especially since he witnessed the androids' power himself when they slaughtered the Z senshi.
1) The Androids could be much weaker than Freeza and still kill all the Z Team. Considering their only Super Saiyan was Goku and he is long dead now, they wouldn't have to be very strong to take out the others. It's doubtful Vegeta attained Super Saiyan in this timeline.
2) Just for the sake of Dragonball's progressive villains, there is quite the case to be made for Future Gohan 2 Arms > Mecha Freeza. Victorious always made this case when we discussed it and it stretches the numbers even further so it has always been debatable.
3) This should be the standard for these discussions.
Right on dude. You ain't no Jack, but you know your stuff.
Actually, there is a window now for Vegeta to be a Super Saiyan with the new logic that Goku is >> Vegeta on Namek. There should be enough spacing to realistically make Vegeta a Super Saiyan, while keeping him at a reasonable level
I think that Vegeta being a Super Saiyan at that time is possible, as he would've seen Goku turn into a SSj and kill Mecha Freeza, and thus be motivated to become one himself.
Well things get very tricky numerically with Vegeta being a Super Saiyan. You can end up with this situation.
Future 17 (Less than Half) > Ssj Gohan (2 arms) > Ssj Vegeta > Ssj Goku (Namek)
You can end up with some serious bloat with that.
Story wise you can go a number of routes.
1) Goku's death sapped Vegeta's inspiration to train as hard as possible.
2) No imminent threat also sapped his desire to desperately get stronger.
Remember how powerful Vegeta got from the end of the Freeza Saga to the Trunks Saga? Yea, not really. Vegeta trained for sure, but nothing suggested he made any sort of miraculous improvement.
Yeah, it'd be weird for Vegeta to become a Super Saiyan yet be way weaker than he was in the present timeline, especially since it's likely that he would've gone through the same training routines as he did in the present timeline in an attempt to become a Super Saiyan.
I think 2 armed Future Gohan being stronger than Mecha Freeza is a possibility though. Do you think that Gohan rushed off to fight the Androids as soon as he managed to become a Super Saiyan?
1) No, it actually wouldn't be weird. It's actually the best possible outcome. Imminent death in 3 years is an easy motivator. A life of peace, not so much. Goku dies not long from his arrival back on Earth. Competing against Goku is what gave Vegeta his drive, without it, who knows if he even got Super Saiyan.
2) It's a good question, not many people spend time on analyzing how the Future Timeline plays out. It's pretty difficult.
Yes, but the special doesn't mean much. Power scaling is our issue, it's possible Vegeta is or isn't story wise. I don't think there's anything in the manga that suggests Vegeta was or wasn't a Super Saiyan.
Yea Trunks is utterly impressed with Vegeta. He is amazed that he is nearly even with 18 and thinks he has a real chance to win. Piccolo has to correct him and tell him that Vegeta's great fighting is going to come to an end abruptly.
This kind of statement is odd considering he's seen Vegeta in Super Saiyan for quite some time before, but I guess he wasn't fighting so Yamcha's statement makes sense here I guess...
That statement doesn't mean much in what we are discussing though.
