Just watching Episode 12...

I have had enough... I've been kinda mellow with Super up till now but no more.... Super (Battle of Gods/Resurrection F Saga) SUCKS. The fight choreography is shit... it's slow and lifeless, the animation is bland and cheap as fuck, and Goku... I can't stand him or Beerus right now.

Battle of Gods..?! More like Battle of Dickheads..!!

And the pacing... god it's awful!! Constantly trying to be funny and filling fight scenes with lame shit.

I'm done... I can't take this obvious lack of care no more.

Another individual who realizes he's outgrown Dragonball Z. Might I add, they didn't make it to appeal to the audience that grew up with it -in such, the dialogue and fight scenes would be alot more violent ect, rather, they are targeting the current generation.

If Gohan were the strongest I'm sure you would have a different perspective.

Gohan being the strongest wouldn't solve its problems. Its most fundamental flaw is that Battle of Gods is still the better version of its story, despite having a third of the runtime.

Episode 5 is a perfect example of why it fails, even ignoring the poor animation. The fight with Beerus and Goku should have lasted 5 minutes like it did in the movie. Instead, what we get is the same content stretched out to 24 minutes, with generic gag scenes (that fucking Kaio holding his wall up bit made me want to kill). We learned nothing in that episode that we didn't learn in Battle of Gods. Additionally, you have a whole episode about the Pilaf gang and of course Oolong's ten minute rock paper scissors with Beerus.

The real issue is that there is obviously no creative vision driving it forward; no one making this show cares. Animators don't care, writers don't care, director doesn't care. It's simply going through the motions and making the necessary adjustments (read: stretching shit out) and using the same techniques (overlong reaction scenes from secondary characters, Piccolo "commentating" on everything that happens in the fight and naturally tone-breaking gag scenes) every episode to fill out the promised 100 episodes. It's not a story, it's a product. In this latest episode, way too many shots of that ripple effect doing nothing, TV reporter crap, etc.

It's the very definition of a holding pattern. It only exists to draw eyes and make money.

GT had more care put into it, at least the later bits. It was a failure as well, but it sometimes felt like it was trying. Super is not trying at all.

It's banking on nostalgia and Resurrection F's success.

Another post of mine on the subject: http://dbzf.co.uk/single/?p=9190216&t=8546246

I seriously do not care about Gohan being weaker than Goku. I understand why they did it (because the lazy writers can only write generic Vegeta and generic Goku) and it's made pretty clear. I don't care that Goku can destroy the universe, I care that a ridiculous amount of episode 12's running time is a ripple effect rippling over backgrounds and basically being a complete waste of time.

Db Super's animation is 100x better than Z or GT. Some background scenes look realistic.

Nothing from the animation crap that is Z or GT comes even close.

latest

GOOD ANIMATION?

lol OH YA, funny one

If you're so burtt-hurt over the new series, stop complaining and fuck off.

Why call yourself a fan?

Don't even pull that bullshit here. The animation in Z and GT may be dated at times, but it still a thousand times better than anything in Super. The animation in Super is nothing more than some of the most piss poor excuse Toei Animation has ever sprouted out.

No effort, no fluidity, and at times even horrible and inconsistent style. Super is nothing more than pandering at its extreme, a series whose pacing leaves a lot to be desired and is nothing more than a huge half ass attempt in working on something like Battle of Gods which was superior in almost every single way.

Super isn't just an insult to the Dragon Ball franchise, it's an insult to animes in general and its truly amazing how Toei Animation can actually be allowed to get away with this nonsense of theirs.

I like DBZ well enough, I like DB well enough. Doesn't mean I have to like Super. I'm not much of a fan anyway.

DBZ had its share of bad animation, but it had the excuse of being made in the 80s and Toei being a pretty small company at the time. It isn't the 5th episode of the most anticipated thing ever; no excuse for things like that. Super's animation fails not because the technology isn't more advanced, but because it's really inconsistent looking. DBZ obviously had lots of different animators, but each episode generally looked consistent, which helped. Furthermore, there are a few DBZ animators who had their own kind of unique look and style. You appreciate something like that. Super just has too many switches to that weird super thick outline style and its tendency for characters to be off-model. DBZ had this as well, but really only in filler.

And since you posted one frame (which actually looks fine) to refute that DBZ has good animation, I could do the same for Super and I'll bet you have a pretty good idea of what that would be.

My post has no butthurt. It's just an explanation for why I dislike Super. Your post, on the other hand, is immature (all caps, lack of punctuation, "lol"), rude ("fuck off") and has no particular critique (one frame of DBZ) in it. Perhaps you should stop being butthurt about people disliking Super and just enjoy it if you do. That, or explain what it is you like about Super.

Dragonball Z had a great deal of horrible animation. A-lot of the scenes were embarrassing for me to watch -even when I was a child. Even during those tender years, it was hard for me to take the show seriously.

The voice acting was also terrible at times and the fight scenes were extremely repetitive. It was just a 2-5 second scene put on repeat for extended periods of time, an absurd an awkward amount of grunting, yelling, screaming, and ass pulled plot points that made no sense.

Dragonball Super has scenes that look realistic whereas Dragonball Z doesn't come close. This is a fact.

Dragon-Ball-Super-ep1.jpg

No scene in Dragonball Z has background images that look that real. No images that crisp. Dragonball Super has had some bad scenes, but for every bad scene it has 10x as many scenes that are 10x more realistic and better drawn than Dragonball Z.

For every bad fight scene in Dragonball Super, I can list three times as many poorly drawn fight scenes in Dragonball Z.

Enjoy the show for what it is.

P.S.

For the derps who are comparing Battle of Gods to Super and claiming Battle of Gods is superior in every way, it's because of the fucking budget costs.

Use your head.

Man, just accept that Super is a second GT except that it doesn't even have soul put into it...

I consider myself a fan of DBZ... The fact that I hardly discuss it anymore doesn't change that. I'm even collecting the VizBig Manga. That said, I certainly have room to criticize Super for the lazy piece of shit that it is.

Toei Animation is proving themselves time and time again they're the worst animation studio in Japan with stunts like this. They ruin great series like Slam Dunk, recently Toriko, and milk series without shame like DBZ and One Piece. I consider One Piece their greatest adaptation and they're making the Dressrosa Anime horrible.

Anyway, you should all read the Super Manga if you want to experience a true sequel to DBZ... I plan to.

Super simply falls flat in mostly every aspect thus far. I don't even particularly care that it's retelling a movie we just saw, or series like Fullmetal Alchemist and Hunter x Hunter would be virtually unwatchable. Unlike those adaptations though, the pacing in Super makes the condensing in a shit adaptation of a shit series like Inuyasha: FA seem tasteful with none of its painful content stretching presenting things of value. The degree to which they halfass the animation whilst hyping the show ultimately achieves the effect of a C-class cashgrab that would make Hollywood blush. The Dragonball and Z anime had many faults, but far more understandable ones than these.
