Is Super really intended for a younger audience?

I've ponder this question for a long time as many people claim Super is made for a younger audience but it is possible considering GT was also intended for a younger audience than Dragon Ball or DBZ. The difference here is GT was made during a horrible time for the Japanese anime industry when anime was pandering towards children and "otakus" while Super is made when Japanese censorship had gotten stricter and the show airs on Sunday mornings instead of Wednesday nights.

Other examples would be the violence is significantly tone down from the original series (which had blood, gore, and even decapitation), the stories are much more within Toriyama's comfort zone, and as far as I can tell there's no heavy-hitting themes explored thus far (the original series dealt with racism, nurture vs. nature, and redemption). There also seems to be a stronger emphasis on comedy (particularly the anime) than the original which was mostly serious from the Piccolo Daimao arc and following.

Now what do y'all think?

Toriyama has said in an interview that he wants more children to enjoy Dragon Ball if memory serves.

Yes! Its always been this way from DB, DBZ, GT, and Super but the main difference is that times has change where blood is too much to handle these days while back then it wasn't IMO.

It's airtime would suggest so. When DB/Z/GT aired in Japan, they were slated for the evening block (7pm iirc), whereas Kai and Super are aired in the 9-10am morning block usually given to anime for a younger audience.

Oh wow, DB was a primetime action series back in the day instead of a "Saturday morning cartoon"?

Sweet!

It's kind've expected that it could get so, since back in those days, anime series weren't getting shat out of the industry to the extent they are now. There was far more of an opportunity for a series like Dragon Ball to get a significant TV spot.
