Was Future Vegeta (manga) Super Saiyan?

I say no because I feel Trunks transforming against Mecha Freeza and Goku was the last straw for Vegeta. It help push him to become a SSJ within the 3 years.

Doubt Vegeta was. His motivation in the main timeline wouldn't exist here, plus he wouldn't train as hard nor does he have help to teach him to transform like Gohan or F. Trunks did.

You can argue that dead or not, Vegeta wouldn't tolerate being outclassed by Son Kakarot. Didn't he still train his ass off in the 7 year gap despite the idea that Goku would be permanently dead?

True, but I'm just talking about how soon Trunks became a Super-Saiyan even-though we can't even be sure about that since Trunks was 14 in the special-chapter that's only two years younger than Gohan in the Boo Saga (screwed-up age scale).

Then again Vegeta didn't have to be Super-Saiyan for any of this, since just being Hybrid already gives Trunks huge potential.

Well that's true, however I don't think he'd be as motivated to surpass Gohan as he would be to surpass the first Super Saiyan, dead or not.

Special TOEI-wise, Goku got ill and died 6 months before the androids' arrival. Manga-wise, it wasn't specified when, with Trunks saying Goku will get ill "not long from now", so maybe before what the special had.
