The anime adaptations I mentioned earlier are vastly different from their manga source material in terms of storytelling, characterization, and certain themes but the former is regarded as a classic in a similar regard to Dragon Ball (and it's also made by Toei Animation) and the latter is one of the most acclaimed anime in recent memory. Dragon Ball is different as the anime kept faithful to it's source material but at a cost.
In order to keep the manga ahead it had to stretch roughly 1 14-paged (at average) chapter out to a whole episode making marathoning the series rather taxing. Z is notably drawn out to the point where it became infamous for how extreme the padding would got. This is honestly something GT benefitted from because it had no source material to wait on (it is the source material) and thus suffered none of these pacing issues.
However, what would happen if Toei went a different direction with the story altogether instead of doing what they did like mentioned above? Would the anime be even more loved or would it fail like GT?
