I don't think any Earthling commented on him being green. That solves why he wears it...the turban, cape and clogs are so distracting nobody notices he's green.

You say that like Bulma has any way of knowing who's stronger by looking at them. It's hard for her to compare a dinosaur to a talking bear I don't remember it, but she could just be a pessimist at that stage. Easier to accept he's going to lose, than get her hopes up.
