Anime movies

Anyone have any movies they would recommend? Not a movie of a series, like DB movie 14 or whatever the fuck, but a stand alone movie.

I have a few that are absolutely fantastic, excluding some studio Ghibli stuff.

Two of my favorites are Wolf Children and Ghost in the Shell. Wolf Children was cute and both heartwarming and melancholic, decent premise to work with. GitS may not be for everyone as it's heavily philosophical and it involves a decent amount of techno babble (iirc)/quiet still shots/extended shots of the city they're in, but I found it intriguing enough.

Yeah, I think you'd like Wolf Children a lot. It really touches the viewer on many levels.

Been meaning to watch that. Director of that also did Perfect Blue (this apparently inspired Black Swan) and Sennen Joyuu too. Whole lot of psychological artsy stuff from what I can make out.

Speaking of which, I bought the dvd for Paprika a few days ago, though I've yet to have a chance at watching it.

Perfect Blue is one of my favorites.

Wicket City is right up there as well.

I believe Akira was the inspiration for The Matrix as well.
