I saw this some-time ago (like at-least a few months ago). I was looking whether Spider's Thread (Kumo no Ito) was ever an anime or a story based on it and I came across this series. This is called Aoi Bungaku. It's a series where a few classic Japanese short-stories get animated. Some stories are given multiple episodes too though. The animation is good. It does feel like a series mainly aimed at children, with the introduction of the person telling you about the story and the person who wrote it and slightly education program feel to it but it still looks good.
The Spider's Thread episode had a very creepy depiction of hell though, not like DragonBall Z hell but this actually looked/felt like hell.
Here's the episode with Kumo no Ito. The sub-titles suck. I watched the episode some-where else but I gues this'll do if you want to see what the series is about.
