They don't have a reason to exist in the manga, because there are no commercial breaks in a comic/manga.

Right, I didn't really think of that. But I thought maybe that might have been in the manga, but under a different purpose (if that's the right word). I mean without that being a sign of a commercial-break coming or ending, maybe for a different reason.

There's only two eyecatches in all of DBZ and one in DB (2 in GT if you count that), and none really contain... much... so I can't say he would've contributed to that while writing a weekly series.

But i can say with some confidence that he didn't help draw the Kai eyecatches, since most look like they came out of Deviantart and just have stills of random characters in the episodes they pertained to. There's also dozens of them, and Kai was partly made out of recycled material because Toriyama wouldn't participate, so yeah...

I've already forgotten about Super eyecatches

That makes sense, but they were in the weekly broadcast of the series and there weren't really all that many, so it's possible. They do seem like something AT'd come-up with though, like even the style (like art-style, if that's the word people use, for the times of the series even-though the Openings had that, too so that might not say much) not only in presentation but how they were seem like AT to me.

Especially the 2nd one with the comedy.

Toei more times than not though is miss than actually even coming close to re-creating the feel of the manga. Other than in DragonBall, the anime-original material there didn't feel out-of-place.

In the filler during the Goku vs. Majin Vegeta fight or right about where Boo was about to revive from his shell. Some news reporters were trying to interview him after he won the tournament and his bath towel slipped off while they had the cameras on him

There's also a similar (anime-only) scene in DB where a thief working for the RRA pretends to be a fortuneteller and asks Goku to show her his balls... only for him to strip down and show her his nuts

Some of the "comedy" in the tv-series was weird as hell, like the General-Blue thing. Like for no reason they added that.
