Berserk --> Why was the demon child reborn as Griffith?

Upon being swallowed by that Behelit Apostle, it seems that baby was reborn as Griffith or something like this. Why was it reborn as Griffith if he weren't exactly his child? And did Griffith rape Casca with this intention?

Griffith was using it as an avatar of himself. I'm guessing the rape was part of his plan to gain his kingdom.

But I was told Griffith would be reborn whether that demon child was swallowed or no, meaning the demon child wasn't necessary for Griffith's rebirth. Why?

I think that point is yet to be seen. Though it's quite possible that the child being the host might be a key in destroying Griffith.
