Challenged by Mystic Omega to make this.

With the anticipation many have of Gen IV remakes ever since ORAS was announced, it's worth discussing the pros that allowed this Gen to stand out.

* Physical/Special split - The Physical/Special split of the previous Generation was very flawed in only applying for Types, thus preventing many Pokemon from reaching their full potential. Gen IV altered this by making it based on individual moves, thus forming the current improved gameplay.
* Increased Depth in Cosmology - The existence of Arceus, the Creation Trio and the Lake Guardians, along with the creation myth they're part of, help offer far more information on the ancient history of the Pokemon Universe than any game to precede or succeed it.
* Cynthia is probably the most well characterised Champion other than perhaps Alder, with her knowledge on Mythology and aid of the protagonist in the story helping her be more than just a final boss. That's not to say she doesn't also stand out as a final challenge, as her team's variety and moveset make her perhaps the most difficult of all Champions.
* Heart Gold/Soul Silver in general - These remakes were entirely superior versions of perhaps the most praised of Generations; with better gameplay features such as Pokemon following you and the return of the Safari Zone, an even more expansive post-game and more characterisation to it's villains than just being all the same Rocket Admins. The Mystery Gifts also helped add a lot of new content to it's story, with it shedding light on Giovanni's disappearance and making Silver being his son canon.

Anyone got any more?

7.8 Gameplay's too slow

All jokes aside that's about it, on top of what's imo one the cooler rosters of Pokémon added to the series.
