Which are the best farewell moments in your opinion, either from the character dying or leaving forever...? Goku's farewell to Piccolo and Kuririn in GT and Whitebeard's farewell to his childrens (with Rayleigh noticing a legend is fading while crying) come to mind.

Raoh's death in Hokuto no Ken is up there for both the cool factor of it and how well it encapsulates the themes of the series, as well as the end of Ashita no Joe. Without spoiling too much, episode 82 of Legend of the Galactic Heroes is also a definite contender.

I would say in Happiness when vampire boy finally returns home for his 30th birthday. He eats some of the cake that his mother left for him and wrote a letter saying Thanks. The mother woke up and he was gone. Had me so sad.

Strawhats leaving Arabasta.

Going Merry :'(

Ace in OP and Itou in Gintama. Not really theatrical or even verbal though.

Sanji leaving Baratie. This one got me out of the blue, even though I didn't even like Sanji.

Hiluluk. OP is generally pretty good at them I guess. Tom, WB.

Indonesian Navy crew singing Sampai Jumpa

I should probably finish more manga/anime to have more answers.
