I've been apart of Super Boo/Kid Boo topics since....I can't even remember. As most of you know, this is one of those topics that never goes away because people are always comparing Goku and Gohan.
Something I've seen mentioned in more recent times is that South Kaioshin's absorption had a negative effect on Boo for these reasons:
-Kaioshins aren't compatible with Boo. Basically, their energy can't be used to strengthen him.
-Kid Boo is considered worse than South Kaioshin absorbed Boo
The first example comes from Dabra when they're talking about stealing energy to absorb Boo. The other is from Kid Boo being considered the most troublesome even though he and South Kaioshin logically should be no different.
I think utilizing energy to revive Boo doesn't necessarily correlate to Boo not being able to use their power at all. Boo is a magical being, so how he'd convert that energy can easily differ. So while Kaioshin and Kibito's energy can't power the meter, nothing says this needs to pertain to Boo's absorption. Pure Evil Boo basically absorbed Dai Kaioshin in Boo form and got way stronger. Boo's Chi went up when he became the South Kaioshin form as well. Most people like to say "nothing says his power went down", but what exactly does that prove? His Chi only rose during his first transformation, and nothing was said about it going up when he was performing the transformation to Kid Boo.
The story has Old Kaioshin ask Kaioshin if the huge Boo he just became was the one that absorbed the Kaioshin, yes. However, Kaioshin seems to refer to them as one in the same when describing his various changes
Kaioshin talks about how Boo was pure evil and uncontrollable prior to absorbing Dai Kaioshin. The fact that Kaioshin refers to him as the Boo that "Bibidi created" would give most the impression that he's talking about Kid Boo. Where does SK come into all of this? Well, I'm of the opinion that he was basically no different than Kid Boo was before Dai was absorbed. He was just bigger and stronger. I also don't think this version of Boo was around long enough to leave much of an impression, so that could explain why Kaioshin transitioned from talking about Bibidi's creation being uncontrollable to Fat Boo being calmed.
This really comes down to how you take the "most troublesome" quote. I personally think it's just talking about his unpredictable nature compared to the other Boo's. A lot of those in the Kid Boo camp like to use this as a power quote that excluded Gotenks and Gohan Boo because it'd dismantle that idea altogether.

Kaioshin: “…Yes…Next to be absorbed was the fat but kind and gentle Dai-Kaioshin….The Majin Boo that Bibidi created was evil itself, a failed creation that even Bibidi himself couldn’t handle, but by absorbing the Dai-Kaioshin, he somehow become controllable…. “
