Can this be used to justify Cell Games Gohan being significantly above Cell Games Goku?

Goku: “How about it, Gohan? Did you think that dad and Cell’s fight just now was too incredible and you couldn’t keep up?”
Gohan: “N-no, I didn’t think so…But neither of you were fighting all-out, right…!?”
Goku: “I don’t know about Cell, but I was going all-out. So in other words, to you it felt like I was holding back?”

Quite a few people use it to reinforce Gohan having a considerable advantage over his father, but Gohan should already be expecting his father to be >> him. So even something = him could still be holding back on his eyes.

Of course. Gohan thought Goku was fucking around. hence he thinks he's omitting shit-tier power.

No, this is not proof nor reinforcement that Gohan is far superior to Goku... or even superior at all. Gohan expects Goku to be, at the very least, greater than himself. If Goku was displaying a level equal to Gohan's own... Gohan would think his father was holding back.

Very interesting take on it there, Vertical. Not sure if I have any rebuttal for that.

I also always saw it like Vertical. I don't see why so many people use this "Gohan seeing his father as holding back" as evidence for a significant gap or, like Vertical said, even a gap at all.

I'm pretty sure it was stated/implied that Gohan is the strongest still.

Even the manga chapter of that fight even says that Gohan surpassed Goku something like that. But could argue that refers to SSjin2 Kid Gohan though.

If the series ended at Cell Games or if you go by Gohan being SSJ2 against Dabura, there is no reason
to go with a large gap between SSJ Goku/Gohan at Cell Games. The gap is later retconned into a
larger one if you go with Gohan being SSJ1 against Dabura, considering Vegeta stated Gohan was ''far
far stronger'' as a child and Dabura, who's slightly weaker than the Gohan he fought, has to be at least
slightly stronger than Cell Games Goku, because ''he'd have been bad news 7 years ago''.
