Cell's ki sensing ability a mess

Well lets see. Cell's ki sensing ability seems to be a mess. Sometimes he's totally incompetent and other times he's very accurate.

In 2nd form He got trashed by Super Vegeta..then does a power up..only to get pseudo tanked and shocked by his ineffectiveness against Vegeta. Surely he should have sensed Vegeta was still stronger than him?

Also, of course in Perfect form when Gohan goes SSJ2 it's deja Vu all again. Arrogant guy thinks his full power will beat Gohan, instead gets trashed even harder.


But then sometimes he's good. Like for instance he knew he was fucked by the Final Flash once Vegeta shot it. In first form He sensed Kamiccolo was fighting at a power way higher than the Super Saiyans and matching the Androids. He also was able to relatively match MSSJ Goku's full power in order to have an interesting fight with him in the Cell Games.

Maybe it's Freeza and Saiyan arc Vegeta's cells in him making him not on Z Senshi par as far as ki sensing is concerned, but still able to do it. Who knows. All I know is it's bad writing.

It's actually good writing and bad power leveling. Sometimes to make the story better the writer has to do stuff like this. If every character is logical and aware at all times it kills some moments. It's a little funky for us as dissecters but it all was great shit overall. His arrogance blinded his ability to sense.

It's not just cell, chi sensing in the entire series seems to be plot dependent.

Cell was deluding himself into believing he was above Gohan? He even had a surprised face when Gohan told him whether that was all, usually when a character really is higher they just arrogantly laugh it off without being surprised or anything.

When he first faced Vegeta, he was relying too much on what he knew of him from Gero's
data and what happened in the original timeline, where Vegeta was weak SSJ tier.
Against Gohan, he could not even conceive the idea of someone surpassing him in his perfect form.
