CG Piccolo > CG SSJ Goku?

When Gohan was getting the shit kicked out of him, Goku did not want to intervene, yet Piccolo was confident enough that he could take on Cell, at least with Gohan's help. It could look something like this:

Goku: 100
Cell @ Goku: 115
Gohan: 140
Cell @ Gohan: 150
Piccolo: 130

The combined efforts of Piccolo and Gohan should be enough to match true speed Cell.

It's a possibility but when u take a step back and think about it would Piccolo really have a chance with gohan and goku wouldn't?
Makes no sense for Piccolo not to fight then, and even if Piccolo isn't sure about his power (whether he's > goku or < goku) goku at the very least would and goku made no such claim or hint of Piccolo fighting cell

Gohan is Piccolo's best friend, the first person who ever genuinly cared for him. He didn't hesitated to sacrifice his own life to save him in Saiyan Saga. Obviously in Cell Saga, when their bond is much stronger, he wouldn't let him die without trying to help him, even if that means he'll get killed too. That's how work true friendship.
