Can anyone explain to me this logic:

"Douchebag is cocky, therefore he disproves anything he says."

:shit

I really don't understand how this can even work in an argument. How does one's personality trait act as a contradiction to something he says? That seems like a complete mindfuck to me. I understand "Douchebag is cocky, therefore I take what he says with a grain of iodized salt," but outright saying Douchebag's claims are already disproved from the onset sounds like poor and lazy thinking.

Writer is Toriyama so everything any character says is likely to be wrong

Because in reality, being cocky means you overestimate yourself and think you are better than you actually are. So you can't really blame someone for thinking this.

No, I don't blame people for not being gung-ho about cockiness, but using that as the entire crux of an argument and dismissing every single word someone says because of it doesn't make a resounding impression to me.

The cocky character logic should only be used if they're either blatantly contradicted or later events indirectly bring their claim into question. In other instances, it primarily seems like cherrypicking.
