Yamcha got unlucky, not knowing they could self-destruct. He was clearly stronger than it, yet he died immediately (so did the saibaman, but was it ever truly alive? I guess so, cuz maybe they're too stupid to do anything else in life and it seemed satisfied. But maybe there are saibamen out there living as lawyers, shopkeepers, sociology professors or raising a family).

He wasn’t able to do any damage and was stuck fighting helplessly in an even battle until he used a super advanced move to land his full powered Kamehameha. Try reading the fight again with this interpretation.

The Saibaman was woefully outclassed skill wise, but had no issues with power. There’s not a single panel that exists in the manga that suggests otherwise.
