It's shit. Zero character development, rehashing of previous ideas, Luffy's plot armour being brought to the nth degree and relying purely on build up and mystery bait over good execution of ideas in order to hook the audience. It at least still hasn't gotten as bad as Fuckmeng Island was, but each arc since Dressrosa has gotten progressively worse. Using DB as a comparison, it's overall worse than the manga's low points of the Cell and Boo Arcs, though still better than GT and far better than Super.

As for the current obsession over the HxH comparison, Current HxH is far better, but far more difficult to tolerate reading due to the slow pacing caused by the overuse of text walls.

In terms of story and character consistency and a lacking what typical flaws ruin a story such as large plot armour, Dark Continent is still better than One Piece on an objective level's core qualities. In terms of utilisation of a visual medium, however, OP does do things better by being less reliant on text.

Give it a try, FH. I have a feeling you will enjoy it. If you feel, watch the 1999 anime. It's even more impactful with its amazing tracks and general atmosphere.
