Super is just getting decent, but the fights still pr much suck compared to DB, as does the power scaling.

Honestly, the only thing that got more serious in DB was from Tienshin arc and beyond to it, before that was all about adventures. We all know that Goku would destroy the RRA army even during the story itself, he was destroying them like nothing and it only got serious once Tao made his debut.

Serious =/= Better unless the tone shift is done appropriately. For example, series like Bleach and Naruto are far more serious than most of Part 1 DB, yet you'd have to really reach to say any aspect of those series is superior to DB under a critical lense.

I agree that a story needs some tension, but for that argument you present to discredit that area of Part 1 DB, Super does the same tenfold. We already know Goku and the rest of Universe 7 will survive any peril that befalls them because the 28th Tenkaichi Budokai exists and Toyotaro has explicitly stated such in regard to the cast's plot armour.
