DB Kai/Super: Dub vs. Sub

Which version do you prefer of the new animes? I vastly preferred the sub for Z and GT (and to lesser extent, OG DB) but Kai and Super are dubbed well enough that almost nothing from the sub is lost to line changes and the actors don't sound nearly as wooden as they did in the Freeza or Cell arcs imo. In fact, in the subbed version of Kai the Japanese Seiyuu sound more wooden than they did in Z, while the opposite is the case for the dub actors who now actually have experience unlike their crappy voices in pre-Boo arc segments of Z.

I'd say the Japanese version is still better since there were still a lot of voices that didn't work in the dubs for Kai and Super, mainly the recasts for most of Freeza's minions (particularly Butta and Jheese who were later given back to Sabat to voice) or the Goku Black voice problem. However, the dub has improved by enough to now be on an equal playing field with the sub in Super with how much energy the cast bring to the table compared to prior and with the Japanese seiyuu's age starting to become noticeable. In particular, I prefer the dub for FighterZ with how the voice actors are able to have great chemistry in the cutscenes.

As a general rule, I almost always go with dubs. That being said, Kai and Super have much better dubs, as you've already mentioned. It's a no brainer for me.

Did you finally check out Kai dubbed like I bugged you to? It's pretty good. Original Z subbed is still the best.

I'd already watched some of it, just key sections like Goku vs. Freeza, Vegeta vs. Cell and Gohan killing Cell.

The dubs have much more spirited performances too. The dub salvaged Super as well.

I dunno if it's just me, but I dislike the tone in which the dubbers structure the characters' phrases. it seems they generally give them a satirical way. even to Goku of all ppl.

You're not wrong. Chris Sabat even said at a panel during a convention with Sean Schemmel that his intention with the dub originally was to add in lines that made it more comedic or had more of a satirical nature, hence why a lot of the deviations with dub lines that have become memes of the Funi dub such as Vegeta's push up, sit ups and plenty of juice or Mondo Cool became so prevalent.

This remains somewhat in Super, though it's more fitting there with how low effort the cashgrab already is.
