Did Perfect Cell 'Power Up Like Gohan' Or Not?

There are two theories I'm trying to work with here:

a) Perfect Cell did not power up like Gohan

Kid Gohan Ssj2 ~ 8,000,000,000
Super Perfect Cell ~ 7,500,000,000
Perfect Cell ~ 6,000,000,000
Kid Gohan Mssj ~ 4,000,000,000

Or

b) Perfect Cell DID power up like Gohan

Kid Gohan Ssj2 Enraged ~ 15,000,000,000
Super Perfect Cell ~ 12,000,000,000
Kid Gohan Ssj2 7,500,000,000
Perfect Cell ~ 6,000,000,000
Kid Gohan Mssj ~ 3,750,000,000

I personally like the second one better.

Remember that Cell was regenerating from an even weaker state(Semi-Perfect). If he was perfect when he blew up he might be even stronger(except by plot).

I think he powered up immensely but not necessarily like Gohan did. For a standard SSJ2 I go with 7x SSJ, but for Enraged SSJ2 Gohan I go with 10x. I didn't boost Cell up THAT much. Seeing as he injured him so badly with an uncharged ki blast I have no problem with SSJ2 Enraged Gohan > Super Perfect Cell > SSJ2 Gohan. But I go with the minimum for Cell so I have SSJ2 Enraged Gohan > Super Perfect Cell >= SSJ2 Gohan or put them as dead on equals.

Enraged SSJ2 Gohan: 125
Super Perfect Cell: 95 (I can't see myself putting him any higher than this)
SSJ2 Gohan: 85
Perfect Cell: 25

Cell would appear to be Gohan's near equal, as it took bringing out all of Gohan's power, as well as Cell being distracted to overcome his Kamehameha.

He did power up like Gohan in one sense of the phrase, so I find nothing wrong with it.

Gohan pretty much said at full power he'd be able to "tear Cell to pieces", or at least he was fully confident he could defeat Cell even after realizing he underestimated Cell as well. So I don't think Cell's increase was anywhere near as big as Gohan's, since he was already way above SS Gohan, and his zenkai still left him noticeably below SS2 Gohan.

I'd like to point out that this confidence on Gohan's part only comes before Cell's attack where he says he's going to tear him apart. Afterwards when Cell's powering up his KHH, Gohan's just kind of giving a defeated groan in wishing he had been able to defeat Cell, something easily be pointed out that he wish he could've destroyed Cell when he had the chance earlier before the self-destruction.

The point is, Gohan doesn't show that confidence afterwards, he just becomes regretful he wasn't able to defeat Cell and avenge his father.

I don't think it mattered that he didn't have #18 inside him when he regenerated. #17 gets brought back to life by the wish that revived people killed by Cell, so he perished in the explosion as well. He most likely regenerated in his complete form by default.

The Daizenshuu states that he powered up like Gohan did. Essentially implying a 2x increase. Further-more, why would Cell come back if he was still weaker than Gohan -unless Gohan's enraged boost is what tipped the scales while Cell was stronger AFTER he came back.

Hence why the Boo Saga puts such an emphasis on Gohan Ssj2 & Enraged.

He wasn't even angry when he killed Cell, it was more like resolve. Goku wasn't telling him to get angry either, just "let your power explode". The only talk of anger was before he transformed.

The quote from the strength checker does not imply that he got the same boost, just that he got a substantial boost, as Gohan did.

"I had vastly powered up like Son Gohan." -> "I, like Son Gohan, had vastly powered up."

Arguing semantics is meaningless to me. It's essentially taking statements that are meant to be taken at face value -due to it being a story and the author wouldn't say things that could be twisted in such a way, and twisting them into what YOU want to believe. Do I call it an argument? Absolutely not.

There is only one specific form of anger Goku could possibly be referencing. Gohan powers up to Ssj2 in the World Tournament but Goku AND Vegeta make a clear distinction between Gohan Ssj2 and what he was when he killed Cell.

Goku goes as far as to say that if Gohan was as mad as he was against Cell that nobody could beat him.

The terminology of 'let your power explode', implies Gohan getting angry -hence the 'explode' part.

To me, the distinction between Ssj2 & Gohan's Enraged power is clear, evident and has several statements to back it up. The entire premise of Gohan's character from the beginning of Z to the Cell Games was him learning to tap into and control that power.

So when Cell powered up 'like Gohan', he got the same 2x boost. But it was Gohan's enraged power that made the difference.
