Goku didnt get distracred by peoples deaths. He didnt flip out with chichi he was extremely calm when Gohan died aswell, But this is most likely because he was focusing on the matter in hand. When he heard Gohan is alive he seemed a bit overjoyed
Chichi took care of Goku in android arc she obviously cares for him shes...just a bit strick I guess.

I'm sure there relationship is a healthy. She took care of Goku when he was sick and didn't leave his side and was ecstatic to see he was fine. She's crying tears of joy and immediately runs to him when he comes back in the Buu saga.

Goku willingly holds her hands before going back to the afterlife. If you want to take BoG as canon to the story she's literally the first thing he thinks about when Byrrus launches that huge sun like attack at the Earth. He wanted to spend time with his family and her if they conceived Goten during those 10 days before the Cell Games.
