Do you think King Piccolo...

...could change like his son. If, say, the fight played out the same way as Goku vs Piccolo Jr and Kid Goku
spared/cured King Piccolo, would he withdraw or try to kill Goku again right away?

Nah. Piccolo Jr had a chance because he was a new entity. Piccolo Daimao was literally all of Kami's evil in a life form. He'd ever change because I doubt he ever could.

I highly doubt it.

Piccolo Junior was a new person by all rights, and only got King Piccolo's memories and intentions.

King Piccolo was all the evil of the original Namekian condensed into a physical body. Likely he could never change, because evil was all he had the potential to be.

And, I don't think the original Piccolo could have went through the Budokai so well and not caused something of a scene. I don't think he'd have played by any rules at all. Junior at least did up until his fight with Goku. I couldn't see King Piccolo going through the whole song and dance in the first place.
