Does resting after doing a lot of training increase one's potential/make training more effective?

Goku said that he and Gohan maxed out after the RoSaT in the Cell arc, yet after taking it easy for 10 days, he was able to get significantly stronger in 7 years of afterlife training, seeing as his power in SSJ/2 surpassed CG Gohan's. Gohan took a 7 year long break from training, and progressed rapidly when he trained with the Z Sword, and although it is Super logic, after taking another break he was able to progress at breakneck speed in the ToP arc, and continued to get stronger afterwards despite already hitting his limit back in the Boo arc. Considering that Galu said that "any more training would just be torture" and would be more harm than help after the RoSaT, does taking some time off training somehow cause one's potential to increase, or otherwise make training more effective?

It probably just helps with the gains possible to achieve, considering taking time to rest and repair the muscles is an important part of both real life training and Roshi's teachings. It's indeed more effective to rest the body (unless having a stack of Senzu to cheese it with), with the cases of nonstop training being more effective usually being due to other factors to separate it from the standard training regime.

Vegeta got more gains after napping than years of non-stop legendary training with mystical achievements. :rape1

I think it helps that the training Goku did in the Afterlife differed a lot from the Rosat one. His power is shown to be barely stronger than Gohan’s in equal forms, so we know he was mostly focused on going beyond Super Saiyan again.

As for Gohan’s gains in Dragon Ball Super, I think it has more to do with Akira Toriyama’s explanation of S-Cells and how the environment can affect one’s power growth, though I might be wrong since S-Cells are about SSJ power and Gohan no longer relies on that.

Also, Z Sword Gohan is all hype and no power.

Z Sword Gohan is still stronger than Goku in equal forms since Goku openly said that his SSJ2 had no chance in hell against Boo, yet only "doubted" that SSJ/2 Gohan would win against Boo, and base Z Sword Gohan handled the sword better than Goku did. He has few feats, but the few feats he does have mostly portray him as stronger than (non-SSJ3) Galu and Vegeta. Plus, Trunks in the Super manga stated that he progressed faster training with the Z Sword than from training on Earth, so we know it's not worthless.

Oh, good point with Trunks’s statement. I have no idea how to rationalize this though since a power up this big just by swinging a sword around shouldn’t be possible. I guess Rou Kaioshin was wrong? :idk

Maybe Future Dabura also got MAX GAINZ from swinging a big, heavy CLANG sword :panties
