It's pretty surprising the films and GT sold vastly more than the DB/Z Dragon Boxes, considering the latter are far more popular. Perhaps general releases of the main series were simply easier to get hold of in Japan and made GT and the movies more valuable.

did u see the prices next to them? the movies & dragon-ball gt were half the price so that's most likely why i think.

Missed that. Still surprising considering you'd expect most to still buy the DB/Z boxes over the cheaper GT and movies unless they already owned some form of the series, considering the former two offer enough content to justify double the price of the latter two.

i think this was the first time any of the series were available but the movies were already released in some ways before, so ye that could be kind-of surprising.

also dragon-box z #1 sold more than 2x of how much hokuto no ken sold too it seems to me, despite i think hokuto no ken also being sold at the same price & the same pre-order reservation condition (i think) around the same time & with hokuto no ken that was the whole series in 1 box-set compared to dragonball which was only the 1st half of the series. that shows how popular dragonball was i think i think.

They need to sell the original 4:3 without the grain removed in the West for fuck's sake. DVD or Blu Ray, whatever. That's the good shit right there.

I remember when the Dragon Boxes came out in the West in like 2011 or 2012 and the prices were going up to like $150 online lol. Like gold to hardcore DBZ fans. These DB Super normie plebs don't even know what they're missing out on....we might be missing out too, but at least we know and can suffer trying to imagine how many scratches are missing from Piccolo's bright green face and what the next centimeter of Goku's outfit might look like, just off-screen.

i have dragon-box & dragon-boxes z #1 & #2 tho, but the price was way too much i think i think, but i still bought, l0l. :pakl :pakl :pakl :king :king :king

Pretty much. HnK still retains strong popularity in Japan, but Dragon Ball's popularity had surpassed it thoroughly by the time of the late 80s and that's remained the case ever since. It also doesn't help HnK that the original DB anime has aged far less despite having initially aired in the same time due to Toei not relying on stock animation being repeated for DB as much (only times it stood out as being used heavily were when Goku and Yamcha tried to break out of Pilaf's prison and during the Goku VS Tao Pai Pai rematch just after Tao used his sword) that would make those judging purely on the visuals gravitate far more to DB.

Be careful giving away that kind of information and make sure nobody follows you home.
