This would work, except in his fight against Rilldo, Goku compares Rilldo to Majin Boo.

We know that Goku is far above Majin Boo when DBS rolls around, and that he's irrelevant to Beerus and Whis.

For this theory to even make a tiny amount of sense, Goku would have had to lose all of his God Ki, which is strange, since it's hinted that he keeps some of it in DBS and in the BoG movies.

GT is a side story while the new movies and series are intended as continuations of the original Manga.

Until Toriyama says as much regarding GT, they are not one of the same.
