Evidence that SSJ3 Goku was relevant to Ultimate Gohan

I don't know whether Tosh ever came up with this (past a point, i no longer bothered
reading his whole walls of text). When Goku is about to go help Gohan against
Buutenks, Old Kai says ''i don't think that the two of you can do it''. If Goku was
totally irrelevant at this fight, Old Kai would've said something like ''you won't
make any difference''; that's what is always said in the series about weaklings
during group fights. So, for Old Kai to word it this way, SSJ3 Goku is somewhat
close to Gohan.

I think Old Kai may have been being wishy washy on purpose to try and not hurt Goku's pride, rather than straight up saying he would be useless. Karin says something pretty similar in Part 1 regarding Goku's chances against Daimao.

Karin (talking to Goku): “Hmm…I hate to say it, but you probably can’t win against Piccolo Daimao no matter what you do…His strength is on a whole different level…”

Plus, Goku's reaction towards Gotenks-Boo charging him kind of speaks for itself... he wouldn't even be able to last long enough for Gohan to find the earring, while Gohan could at least last for a few minutes. The two are not comparable at all.
