So its a start. I can tell now that I can watch this kind of quality (since I mostly hate these kind of quality).

Main protagonist is your typical over enthusiastic kid aka mini Super Goku. Roreo and that blond kid are OK I guess. Still not invest with these characters but their journey to these Hunter exam. Is Mito Gon's mother or sister? I can't tell. I know it's a good reason for Gon to want to know his father left him to become a hunter but he should be mad at him and curious at the same time not enthusiastic but oh well.

Episode 2: Those were a good tests. I was expecting the tests were about fighting but it's good that they'll saving it for later (I hope so). I wonder what happened to that dude who overheard the conversation between the captain and Gon since he went to the wrong direction.

Kid Goku's probably a better comparison overall. Gon indeed doesn't have much regular intelligence, but is good at battle tactics like most Shonen leads.
Not only does his age make this far more excusable than with someone such as Luffy from One Piece, however, but his selfish actions later on in the series actually act as being very realistic as a child's undeveloped view of morality. The Chimera Ant Arc also grants far more engagement and development in his character than with almost any other of the same archetype (too bad this gets regressed in the following arc).

You'll probably become invested in Kurapika during the Yorknew Arc (after episode 37 I believe). Leorio is alright, but doesn't have much to keep him engaging after the exams.

His aunt, though funnily enough her Seiyuu Keiko Han is the mother of Gon's seiyuu Megumi Han.

I haven't watched Kid Goku Japanese version so I can't tell but maybe you're right though. If only I can like your post in this section.

Episode 3: Nothing here to discuss since they're just introducing the participants of the characters and I already forgot half of them although I can see there' are similarities with DB Budokai 21st characters such as Todo = Giran, Snake dude = Nam, a black dude = pompous etc.

Episode 4: Well now I know their story (Lorezo and the blonde boy). Kinda disturbing for blond boy though where his clan were mudered only to take all of their eyes and sell it. Lorezo has a good story too but still don't like Gon treating his goal like a naive idiot when he should be eager and mad at the same time for his father leaving him. Never mind, that white boy treating everything as a game. Hated those kind of character. Good thing that nerd fatso was eliminated from this phase, what an annoying shit.
