I was watching the scene where Vegeta destroys the force measuring machine in TB25. After Vegeta destroyed the machine, Gohan comments to Goku that Vegeta has unparalleled strength.
The truth is that it wouldn't make sense for Gohan to make that comment if Vegeta wasn't superior to all the versions Gohan had had so far. It can be argued that this phrase should not be taken very seriously, considering that Base Vegeta (Pre Majin) is much inferior to some characters, but Gohan at that time must have already suspected that Vegeta had SSJ2, since on the Plane when Gohan proposed that they fight without transforming into SSJ, Vegeta commented that it won't change their supremacy. So it makes a lot of sense that Gohan knew that Vegeta had SSJ2.
Gohan seeing how strong Vegeta Base (Pre Majin) is, managed to imagine how powerful Vegeta SSJ2 (Pre Majin) must be and that power was incomparable until that moment.
