Goku could have pushed the Kaio-Ken all the way to 20?

Hmmm... there are several interesting quotes that come to mind.

Chapter: 302 (DBZ 108), P7.3-4
Goku: “Damn it...What’s happening…?! Freeza’s ki got stronger again! Now even if my body’s fully healed, I might not be able to beat him…What should I do?...I give up…”

Goku (Arrival on Namek)
-Base 90,000
-Kaio-Kenx 10 900,000
[-Kaio-Kenx20 1,800,000]

Freeza (3rd Form)
-Full Power 2,000,000

So Goku believes that he may stand a chance, but it is a slim chance. Because:

Chapter: 270 (DBZ 76), P11.1-4
Context: Goku has turned the gravity back down to 1g.
Goku: “Hwoo!!! I…I feel so light… …It’s like I’m not even here!!! Hoo hoo hoo!!! I’m light, I’m light! And strong, strong! Like this, I can definitely withstand about a 10-fold Kaio-Ken!”

Goku estimates that he can definitely withstand a 10-hold Kaio-Ken, but that is not the same as being able to withstand a 20 fold Kaio-Ken, as we see here:

Chapter: 313 (DBZ 119), P8.1
Goku: "I ain't got no choice but to raise the K... Kaio-Ken up to twenty-fold... Though my bo... body might not be able to take it... B... but if he really is at 50 percent now, like he says he is, then there ain't nothing at all I can do..."

So before and after healing inside the healing machine, Goku is certain he can withstand a 10x Kaio-Ken attack, but in both scenarios -when he arrived on Namek and before his final fight with Freeza,, he is completely uncertain about whether or not he is capable of pushing out a 20. But the implications suggest that he is.

I see nothing wrong with this.

If he's unsure his body could handle it after his zenkai it's pretty unlikely he was even thinking about higher than a x10 before it.

There is no other reasonable explanation as to how he would defeat 3rd Form Freeza without it, it's a mathematical possibility, unless...

He probably accounted for an additional zenkai. Vegeta's last zenkai was tremendous, so he may have thought his wouldn't be run of the mill either.

Why couldn't it be kaioken beyond 10x and less than 20x?

Unless since he's almost fully healed he has a pretty good idea of how much stronger he's gotten.

Goku knew for a fact in both scenarios that he could do a Kaio-Kenx10 no problem, but he is uncertain about going higher in either situation. Nothing is wrong with him going as far as 20x.
