Goku's POV on Gohan post-ritual

Elder Kaioshin: “Hmph, transforming isn’t good. That Super whatever-its-called is the wrong way [of doing things]…â€￾

What do you make of this statement? The way Goku gushes over Gohan kind of implies to me that Gohan is even stronger than him, and at that point Gohan wasn't even at full power (he powered up later on right before fighting Boo).

I don't typically see how it proves Gohan is superior to Goku. Nothing states it or even comes close to it. Goku is simply amazed by what degree Gohan has been taken to. From my perspective, Gohan was a weak Super Saiyan 2 by this point of the series and was brought to the likes of Super Saiyan 3 -which had the capabilities of shaking the planet apart, being sensed from The World Of The Kais, and being in league with Goku Ssj3, Gotenks Ssj3 & Super Boo. There is noticeably a clear distinction made by comparing Gohan's 'Mystic' state to that of Super Saiyan -with Elder Kaioshin remarking which transformation is superior, not necessarily that the bearer of said transformation is superior.

Toriyamas more recent interviews and the current implications of Db Super -paired with an alternative perspective of the Manga's implications, seem to dictate Gohan is now in league with Goku Ssj3, but not necessarily stronger.

I figure that statement is also worth adding to this thread. But yeah, I have a hard time justifying Goku being anywhere near Gohan based on Gohan's amazing potential being shoved in our face ever since his debut. It'd be quite underwhelming if Gohan brought fa~ar beyond his limits ended up weaker than Goku when it was explicitly stated half-breeds' potential exceeds full-blooded Saiyans' potential. These two statements make it very clear Gohan is stronger than Goku in my opinion.

Goku relied on Gohan's 'dormant power' in the Cell Games -that was the sole premise of the entire Saga. So it doesn't change the fact that Gohan being brought 'past' -what Goku believed was his previous peak in strength, would astound Goku; thus making him wonder how much dormant power he actually had all along.

Goku makes a specific point of stating Gohan should get angry like he was against Cell. So it speaks in the past tense. Later, Gohan is trying to get angry like he was back then, but he just can't seem to do it. This power that is continuously being mentioned was already stated to have been surpassed by Majin Vegeta & Piccolo.

Vegeta had hoped that Goku at least surpassed Kid Gohan. IMO Goku is trying to give Gohan a speech to help him in his fight against Babadi & Dabura, and later, Majin Boo.

Perhaps the Gohan that was beating up Cell most of the time. I doubt Piccolo and Vegeta were talking about the enraged Gohan towards the end of the Kamehameha. It would make more sense they talk about surpassing Gohan who's power that can properly discern and gauge, not his potential/quick burst of power that would be too hard to gauge and properly decide how strong he could become.

Well if Goku is unable to gauge Gohan's power the moment he killed Cell than he is also unable to determine if Gohan would have become the strongest on Earth if he got mad. Further-more, Goku wasn't living on Earth at the time the statement was made, so I see no reason it should include him. His expectations for Majin Vegeta were surpassed the moment Vegeta powered up. So any predetemined power for Teen Gohan Ssj2 is automatically debunked the moment that happens.

Yes it's pretty clear why Goku was shitting himself at the thought of Gotenks, Gohan and Super Buu's power. He wanted to give the new generation a chance, meanwhile on the inside Goku was mocking them and their feeble power.
