Gotenks, A Gag Character!

With the appearance of Goten and young Trunks, it seems as though the number of gags shown between battle scenes and the like increased.

It’s also a way of “hiding my weakness”. (laughs) If it gets too dramatic, and there are nothing but serious developments, it feels like my own blood pressure will go up, and I personally don’t like it very much. I believe that comics are entirely for entertainment.

That all really took off with Gotenks. There are legends that your editor Takeda-san would crack up each week when he saw the storyboards in the editing department. (laughs)

I suppose I am a gag-manga artist after all. (laughs)
But then after all, I’m always thinking of how there are a lot of guys on our side, but only one enemy. If you think about it, isn’t it unfair? (laughs) They can just gang up on him. (laughs)

I’d imagine that thinking up the battle scenes would be hard each time.
Yeah. With the battles as well, I couldn’t have them do the same thing each time after all. It was already good at the beginning when Goku was tiny, but in the second half when the battles started to gradually escalate, I thought up more and more amazing techniques. That’s why it was fun drawing Majin Boo and Gotenks’ fight. I thought up strange techniques in the spirit of a gag manga. (laughs)

“I think this was the first fight in a long time where I was able to do things my way. I drew relatively a lot of things like that during this period.”

Gotenks is all about hype. He's one of the characters that their hype needs to back it up and sadly his fights were proven to be a gag fight by the GOAT himself.

Goku is perhaps the best character judge someone's strength so when he said that SSjin Gotenks can beat Boo then that must be true.

Such comedy where Piccolo hyped Base Gotenks and even went so far on being strong enough to defeat Boo but that didn't happen. Also Boo didn't power up to tanked Gotenks's kicks and punches.

Well yeah but the story here was that Gotenks is strong yeah! He probably has chance against Buu but turned out to be false. It's like how Satan went on to fight Cell with these all hype only for Cell to punch him away. That's comedy right there!

This isn't that type of comedy.. It was obvious satan was gunna get furked whereas gotenks was a build up character who was actually meant to fight buu properly. Also piccolo and the announcer are dimensions apart when it comes to being a source of judgement.

But both proven to be wrong right? Why was that? Boo wasn't said to power up therefore how can Piccolo came into a conclusion that Gotenks has a chance against Boo if Boo didn't power up at all?

Was it Base Gotenks ~ Super Boo or Super Boo > Base Gotenks?

Final Form Freeza isn't said to be powering up against Vegeta, yet we know he did cuz everybody thinks Vegeta has a shot, yey he got screwed. Now tell me how this is different to Gotenks' situation.

Final Form Freeza isn't said to be powering up against Vegeta, yet we know he did cuz everybody thinks Vegeta has a shot, yey he got screwed. Now tell me how this is different to Gotenks' situation.

Freeza didn't power up at all except he increased his speed and got little serious.

Vegeta was being delusional and since he was able to track Freeza's speed which made everyone thought that he had a chance against Freeza but they were wrong since Freeza was stronger than Vegeta during the whole time. Also, Piccolo doesn't even think that Vegeta can defeat Freeza at all and was confused with this SSjin thing that Vegeta claimed to be.

Nope, Boo wasn't said to power up at all. He was literally waiting for Gotenks to tell him to start the fight which doesn't sound fighting at all. It was just like Cell standing there against Mr. Satan. GAG!

As for Vegeta and Cell, Krillin already said that Vegeta is gonna lose against Cell before the fight begins. Toriyama already hinted the result before the fight starts.

I can understand where you're coming from with the gotenks not being strong stuff but using this quote itself is the biggest exvuse ever
