Easily one of my favourite manga series. Along with having great art and a manly GAR tone throughout, it's depressing environment is something becoming quite rare in modern Shonen. It's characters aren't the most developed, though most of them are very likeable and some are well written in their web of relations to each other, such as Jagi's influence on Shin or Raoh's true motives. It's powerscaling is also a lot less extreme than most other Shonen, with it's powerups being far more rooted in a character's development, rather than the poorly written Super Saiyan clones and Nakama power that makes up the bulk of modern battle series.

2nd part of the manga (Volumes 16-27) are absolute shit in writing quality though (though thankfully, not to the extent of Bleach or Part 2 Nardo). Other than constantly improving art, it's not worth checking out unless you want to learn more about the lore of the franchise as a whole.

I just watch it on the anime and didn't bother to watch it on the manga. Kenshiro reminds me of Bruce Lee lol and I like the fact that the environment is completely fucked up and depressing, was it before the new millenium? Because its a great storytelling but it bothers that Kenshiro doesn't have a lot of rivals that is strong enough to beat him. The 2nd story is completely ripped off from the 1st story especially with Kaioh/Raoh and Toki/Hyo stuffs, the story is great but it fails to hold the momentum of the 1st story IMO.

You ought to read the manga. The art and gore are far superior, as is the pacing of most story arcs, especially the structure of the first arc. I don't see Kenshiro having very few rivals as too much of a problem, at least not compared to the other extreme of Shonen storytelling of having him constantly needing to get stronger.

The manga has great art and good moments, but the contradictive backstories and timeline mess makes my head ache when attempting to rationalize it. Also, the fact that Kenshiro seemingly has an ace for every situation with the Hokuto shinken and yet the art is copied by faggots like Amiba and some trash near the end of the series is a little headscratching. Still nothing on the level of modern day trash like Naruto, but with the number of people that idolize the successor of the ultimate assassination technique it's kind of gay. Kenshin's Hiten Mitsurugiryu at least can only be used by one person per generation usually and ultimately leaves him weakened and shit.

I'll read the manga on this summer. HNk is more about fists, styles, assasination than a random fight like DB and other animes. I still don't get how did Shin was able to destroy Kenshiro if Kenshiro was strong enough to fight with Raoh?

Which timeline is this?
It takes place about a year before the start of the series, a few days after Kenshiro was defeated by Shin. Whether or not it's canon to the manga or anime is debatable. I'd be inclined to say neither and place it as part of the Shin Kyushu Densetsu Movie timeline, considering the other HnK movies of that series are reboots that retcon a few events of the manga/anime.

I was thinking that it's part of the movie timeline before he met Lyn and Bart, the movie is good though but it felt unnecassary IMO. Also how many movies are there? I've watch the two movies along with Kenshiro defeating Roah. I saw some clips where Kenshiro fighting Souther though.

Out of the Shin Kyushu Densetsu films, there's 5.

Raoh Gaiden I - Remake of the Souther Arc. Not as good plot-wise, since Souther is a 1-dimensional villain here without a hint of the Ohgai backstory and Raoh's compassionate side was just shoehorned in, though the fights between Kenshiro and Souther are worth watching.

Raoh Gaiden II - Remake of the Last Nanto General Arc. Pretty rushed, considering they removed Juza completely, though like the previous one, worth watching for Kenshiro and Raoh's final battle and the animation for the Musou Tensei scenes. It did have one saving grace in it's plot, being the addition of Balga and a better display of Raoh's more compassionate side.

Yuria Den - Yuria's point of view, showing her first meeting Kenshiro and Raoh, Shin taking her away, her attempted suicide and her life as the Last Nanto General. Nothing of worth here, tbh.

Toki Den - Shows Toki's point of view from the start of his illness to his final battle with Raoh. Beyond the Toki VS Raoh fight, there's not much worth watching it for.

Kenshiro Zero Den - The movie you watched. Is slightly above average for having more justification for it's existence, since it aids in Kenshiro's character development rather than being a collection of iconic moments like the others.

Damn! Thanks man! This will save me some trouble. Therefore there are 3 movies left that I have to watch with Roah II and KZD is done.
