How come Gero didn’t know about power suppression?

The very power levels we had in the Saiyan Arc were shown to shoot up by amounts as big as many times sometimes. Think of Goku going from 334 to 924 or Gohan going from 981 to 2,800. If Gero was really watching everything shouldn’t he already expect that?

Was power suppression present in Dragon Ball?

There was in the Saiyan arc which Gero had witnessed.

Just plot induced stupidity similar to Gohan-Boo forgetting that Vegetto can just sense his ki even if he's obscured by smoke.

Then again, #16 also failed to consider that Perfect Cell was just fucking around with Vegeta and rushed to judgment in saying Vegeta was still above Cell in every way, so maybe it's just an android thing :troll

It's most likely from the sheer amount that suppression had increased from the Saiyan Arc. Against Raditz, it wasn't really treat as a major thing and the only difference seem to came from charged Ki attacks. Against Nappa and Vegeta, it was still at the point where the characters were at most lowering themselves to about 50% of their true power. This is a far cry from how much they'd improve on Ki control on Namek and onwards with Goku going from 5k to 60k or more in an instant before scouters could even register it or Piccolo going from at best not much above the Base Saiyans to SSJ tier, clearly a whole different ball game than what Gero had dealt with prior.
