How does kaioken work?

Most people believe there is no 1.5x KK or something. But i don't see why kaioken has to take integers only, it's a technique where you can
choose how much to raise your power. Goku could choose to increase it by something less than 2x or something between 2x-3x.

Because at that time it was all about power levels, and it's a lot easier to do basic multiplication than it is to do decimals on the fly in a children's manga.

Also kaio-ken was effective for what it was, a bursting technique. Vegeta would never have been defeated without it. Even if goku doesn't defeat him with it, it allows him to weaken vegeta enough that they can beat him.
