How Is This Effect Done?

It's heavily used in Dragon Ball to convey fast movement. I'm intrigued by it because it looks really cool, but also the lines get so incredibly small. They all look perfect, too. Do you think they just used a ruler or something?

You said that the lines got so small so my question is that how were the lines when they were bigger?

I mean the lines would get gradually smaller within he drawing. Notice how the speed lines beneath #19's feet are smaller than the ones above.

It's hand drawn my man. You have to remember comic/manga artists work on a large canvas that is then copied and shrunk down to fit into a book. When they are drawing, they have a huge paper to work off of.

I see. That'd make more sense than drawing tiny panels on a five inch page. :king
