It removed the filler of the driving lessons (the only good filler in this arc) as well as Maron's return and the filler within the 10 day wait for the Cell Games, but that's about it.
I'd say rewatching Z is the better choice though, since as you said, the music placement is nowhere near as good and some scenes are really ruined by it, such as Gohan's SS2 transformation lacking Unmei no Hi ~ Tamashii tai Tamashii. What filler remained was the worse filler of the arc in terms of consistency such as Kuririn putting up a fight against Cell of Yamcha and Ten being able to fight back against a Cell Junior (though the Cell Arc is the most inconsistent arc of the manga anyway, so I guess things aren't too much of a step down either way).
