How old was Tao Pai Pai?

Is he nearly as old as Roshi/Tsuru? It's very odd that he was only an assassin for some 20 years. What was he doing before that?

According to the Daizenshuu/Chozenshuu's timeline, he was born in Age 459, making him 2 at the time of Mutaito's death and making him roughly 291 years old during his debut. I'm guessing prior to being an assassin, he probably had more of a hand's on presence in the Crane School or wanted to fully develop his skills before formally becoming an assassin.

Probably, before he was an assassin, he was an office worker. Then he got out of the rat-race and became an assassin.

I wonder if Toriyama's titbit inspired Hirohiko Araki's creation of Kira Yoshikage in Part 4 of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, since if you swap out assassin for serial killer you have a pretty similar backstory. Wouldn't surprise me when considering Part 4 of JoJo had a ton of DBZ references such as Shigechi being based on Dodoria or Red Hot Chili Pepper being a Golden 1st form Cell.
