I like the "each technique has its restriction" mentality. But correct if I am wrong, part of the reason for why Kurapika's chain got so strong was due to him assigning a heavy restriction to using it in anyone but the Genei Ryodans... don't you guys think that kind of a cheap way to strengthen your nen, as in there could be more nen users placing heavy restrictions in the usage of their powers to be strong?

I don't find it cheap at all. Kurapika's nen is so situational that he becomes useless against anyone but 8 people on the planet.. Seems like a fair restriction to me.

True, but if more ppl place heavy restrictions on their powers, it will become stronger as well? Eh, it just seems weird to me.

Yea, but going by Kurapkia's nen, they would be extremely limited in most combat situations. I don't see it being an issue.

What kind of highly-specific restictions could others impose on themselves? The only feasible ones I can think of would be:

1. Only able to use nen for a short amount of time per a day.

2. Only able to use nen in a specific area of the world.

I indeed find the Contracts a cheap power up method, or at least Gon's, given how easy they seem to be to learn for those who know of them and provide an unfair advantage against opponents (at least until I see a villain actually using one). Kurapika's abilities were handled OK in the Yorknew Arc due to their limitations, even if he was virtually unbeatable against a Troupe member 1 on 1 without much training because of it, though his myriad of abilities in the current arc seems to have made him close to a Gary Stu.
Also with Nen, we aren't given an in-depth knowledge as to it's actual creation or origin beyond the opening of pores, such as the logic behind contracts even being a thing.

Because of that, I'd say Alchemy from FMA is a better power system due to being more balanced and has more pseudo-science behind it. Despite it's flaws though, Nen is still the runner up for best/most interesting power system in anime/manga.

I agree. Plus, if you have some strong hate towards some enemy and seeks vengeance against him (or just wishes to kill him for some reason), then the Contracts seems always a convenient way for you to face such person. It seems this HxH aspect works alongside the idea of sacrifice being needed to achieve great things (and such is historically true), but I think the way it's handled is still bound to raise such questions.
