If Vegeta and Trunks mastered the SSJ...

If Vegeta and Trunks had the idea to master the SSJ on their first usage of the room, do you imagine they would have come out way stronger?

I think they'd have come out stronger than they did in the Cell Games if they mastered it. But since the latter half of Z seems to treat Vegeta's potential as inferior to Galu's, I can't say they'd be as strong as Cell Games Galu/Gohan though.

I'd say it's more accurate to say this was just Vegeta's perception rather than an undeniable fact, considering Galu was constantly going through new training regimes that would keep him one step ahead. The only time he surpassed Vegeta on a level playing field was with their final Zenkais on Namek, which can be explained away as due to Goku's gentle heart allowing him to draw closer to SSJ if taking into account Toriyama's S-Cell explanation.

As for the topic, I'd say they'd both catch up to Goku. They may fall short to Gohan if not training together, though Trunks would probably catch up to him if he and Vegeta had gone in together for the 2nd trip.

Yeah they'd definitely catch up. Assuming they did the same things Goku and Gohan did, I'd say Vegeta is reaching his Boo Arc power, while Trunks probably surpasses Gohan slightly.

Hybrid potential. Trunks ought to have comparable potential to Gohan considering the latter's future self believed Trunks would soon surpass him, so he should benefit just as much from the same training regime Gohan went through when he was the stronger of the two prior to the Rosat.

It's somewhat weird that Trunks' potential is supposedly considerably above Vegeta's but he still remains always one step behind his father throughout the saga. He seems closer in the CGs compared to beforehand though.

Vegeta probably trained harder, because he was angry at being left in the dust by Galu. That and Trunks is generally an idiot when it comes to coming up with effective training methods.

That, and Trunks' respect and love for his father's pride to the point of holding back Grade 3 until he was sure Vegeta wouldn't find out may have meant he subconsciously stopped himself from going beyond Vegeta's level in equal forms on the first trip, with the 2nd trip in general being less effective due to Trunks' limited fighting skill and having no sparring partner.
