In terms of fighting ability, how does Kid Goku stack up to Goten?

If they were to fight at equal conditions in a tournament setting, who would you consider the favourite, percentage wise?

Goten would win simply due to being able to fly, plus he has experience tagging someone stronger than him (Gohan) while Goku's never sparred with anyone stronger since Grandpa Gohan died.

It's also in-character for Goten to take to the skies when faced with some adversity on the feet. He's no slouch on the ground either. Don't see a clear path of victory for Goku.

How would be Goten's ability to fly? Because if he's to fight in the same conditions as Goku, shouldn't his flying ability be very limited due to lack of chi?

That Ki is still several times higher than Videl's, who can at least float for an extended period

Yeah, so in this scenario would kid Goku be as strong as that Goten? I think it'd work better than bringing Goten to his level.

Equal conditions just means they will have the same power and speed for the match. Outside of that, they'll have the same capabilities as the versions chosen, so Goten's flying ability still corresponds to what we saw from the Trunks fight.

In terms of energy reserves, just think of it in a sense of how their stamina holds up when battling someone on their level in their own fights, and use it as a reference point for this fight if you feel that that element of the battle warrants such depth.

We don't exactly have much to judge Goten's stamina off of though. His only real battle was against Trunks, the rest of his battles were either sparring matches or in a fused state.

That being said Goten's stamina may not be that bad actually, since Trunks held him in that full nelson so long that everyone thought the fight was over and Trunks even said he'd die if this went on longer, yet he showed no lasting damage from it. It's hard to put that on a level playing field for judging as something vaguely similar like Goku breaking out of Roshi's Bankoku Bikkuri-sho with Oozaru and being very exhausted when he went back to base form, but Goten may actually have the edge here, especially since Goku wouldn't have learned advanced Ki control like suppression at this point.

Eh, I'm a little confused, but ok, nvm
They are supposed to be equals in speed and power but have attributes they displayed throughout the series arcs they're featured in. Not sure what is confusing

Wouldn't that mean Goku's speed should go way up tho to compete with Goten's flying abilities?

Why would it? His native running abilities would just increase. Back in the 22nd and 23rd Budokais just running was faster than flying considering that the most they could do back then was float and boost themselves relatively slowly in the air.

Back then. Doesn't compare to Goten's flying abilities in the Boo Saga, who even used it to rush towards kid Trunks. Doubt Goku could even see it.

Goku's Ki would be equal to Goten's in this scenario though lol

I only brought it up because ahill got confused by thinking Goten's ki would be lacking, which it wouldn't. Now he knows what to reference if necessary. They both seemed to have good stamina from what we saw when they were truly tested. Goku may get hungry, but even then, he was able to fight through that against Roshi. Other aspects such as strategy, tactics, moveset, and the ability to capitalise on the opponent's mistakes would be more meaningful to judge.
