Zoro and Mihawk must have an amicable relationship, so it's hard to imagine them having a brutal, life-threatening fight, without some other motivation. But it's also probably impossible for Zoro to prove himself the superior swordsman in a fight with Mihawk in any other way, unless he surpasses him by such a wide margin that he totally outclasses him. So, do you think they will just have a random duel somewhere? Or do you think it'll be part of some war where they end up on different sides? Or that Zoro will be shown to be superior in some indirect way, such as defeating Shiryu or Fujitora after they defeat Mihawk?

If Mihawk had any interest in building an organization of its own I'd say it'd be after Shanks gets killed by Blackbeard in order to avoid Luffy having to defeat or kill his idol. Instead I'd say Mihawk would be the secondary boss that Zoro would need to overcome when the inevitable battle against the Marine Admirals takes place.
